Qatar plans $5.5 billion development with Disney-size theme park
Qatar is launching a new 20 billion riyal ($5.5 billion) tourism development focused on a massive amusement park that is expected to be larger than Walt Disney Co.'s famed Magic Kingdom.
The Simaisma project will be located around 40 minutes north of Doha, the gas-rich nation's capital, and will ultimately include 8 million square meters (1,976 acres) across 7 kilometers of beachfront property. The property will also have an 18-hole golf course surrounded by 300 villas, luxury resorts, a marina, and a beach club, as well as homes and stores.
The development will include a variety of attractions, such as luxury hotels, retail spaces, and entertainment venues, making it an important addition to Qatar's tourism infrastructure. The theme park itself is anticipated to compete with big worldwide sites such as Disney World, with a variety of rides and experiences to appeal to both families and adrenaline seekers.
In addition to the theme park, the project will contain residential sections, office spaces, and green zones, to create a lively, mixed-use city that benefits both tourists and locals. This action is part of Qatar's Vision 2030, which prioritizes sustainable development and economic diversification.
Overall, the project shows Qatar's ambition to become a top global tourism destination by using its strategic location and investment capability to construct world-class attractions and services.
