UAE President declares July 18 as Union Pledge Day
President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has announced that July 18 will now be celebrated as Union Pledge Day in the UAE. This date commemorates the historic meeting on July 18, 1971, when the UAE’s founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, along with the other Rulers, signed the declaration of the Union and the UAE Constitution.
This significant event laid the groundwork for the formation of the United Arab Emirates, which officially became a federation on December 2, 1971.
The President emphasized that July 18, 1971, is one of the most significant dates in UAE history, marking the signing of the Union and the Constitution. Union Pledge Day is meant to reflect on the UAE's journey, draw lessons from the past, and inspire future generations.
Union Pledge Day joins other national occasions like Union Day, Flag Day, and Commemoration Day. Its purpose is to honor the values and principles established by Sheikh Zayed and his fellow Rulers, which continue to guide the nation. Additionally, the day aims to educate the youth about the country’s history and the efforts and sacrifices made to achieve the union.
